Suggested Sequence of Courses for a B.S./B.A. in Biochemistry
| The biochemistry program is an
inter-departmental program administered by a committee
selected from the faculty of the Departments of Biology and
Chemistry. Both a B.A. and a B.S. are
available. Interested students should direct inquires to Dr.
Ildiko Kovach, the Advising Coordinator, or Dr. John Golin of the
Department of Biology (319-5722). The course requirements are designed to provide rigorous but balanced training in both biology and chemistry. In addition, undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in laboratory research with the faculty or at area research facilities such as the National Institutes of Health and the Walter reed Army Institute of Research. The biochemistry curriculum fulfills course requirements for most post-graduate schools in areas such as chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, as well as most life science professional schools in medicine, dentistry, veterinary sciences and optometry. Freshman Year: BIOL 105, 106; CHEM 103/113 and 104/114; MATH 111 and 112 Sophomore Year: CHEM 203/213 and 204/214; PHYS 205 or 215/225 and 206 or 216/226 Junior Year: CHEM 351/353; 508 and 518; 1 BIOL elective from BIOL 207, 538, 548, 549, 586 Senior Year: 1 BIOL elective from BIOL 207, 538,518,549,586 ; CHEM 571, 572 and 596. |
