On May 3rd, 2011, Professor James (Casey) Hynes was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in recognition of distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Casey was one of 72 new members elected from the US along with 18 foreign associates in all branches of the sciences and mathematics.  Members are selected from the elite in American Science.
