  • Dr. Aaron Barkett

I teach introductory chemistry, earth science, environmental science, and physical chemistry. My research program is focused on three topics: (1) the feasibility of using novel, previously untested, chemical compounds to extract uranium from seawater; (2) the durability of glasses containing nuclear wastes in the presence of groundwater; and (3) the use of mathematical concepts and methods in environmental education.

  • Dr. Katherine L. Havanki

I teach introductory and general chemistry courses, including lab courses. I am interested in how students perceive the complexity of scientific notation, factors that affect search and comprehension while students read chemical equations, and how technology can be effectively used inside and outside the classroom. I use a variety of quantitative and qualitative research technique, including eye tracking, to study teaching and learning in chemistry.
